Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger

Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger

Let me finish by saying Raven Squad isn't the awful piece of shit that most reviewers have you believe. It's mediocre at best, but at a short five hour length might be worth a play through on a Sunday afternoon.

Red Faction: Guerrilla

Red Faction: Guerrilla

Saints Row 2 is a much more involving game. The story, characters, depth is much greater. But if I were to go back and replay that or RF:G, I'd picked this game hands down. It has a much more unique setting, shorter length and more satisfying gameplay. Saints Row 2 just has too much fucking around doing mind-numbingly boring tasks, whereas the shorter length of RF:G avoids all that. It does have some save issues and the respawing enemies is poor, but I did enjoy it after a bit of a slow start.

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5

I've been pretty harsh on RE5 because it does have plenty of things wrong with it, but they're not that major. The further you play it, the more enjoyable it becomes. It's different, a mix of survival-horror with standard third-person action. But I mostly enjoyed the fantastic visuals and I guess that's why this game received a lot of passes from the critics.

Rise of the Argonauts

Rise of the Argonauts

If you're a WASD player then you won't have any issues with controlling the game like I did. So really the only negatives are some sloppy combat and ludicrously long conversations, but you get a good story, good characters and nice looking game out of it. I might rate it low for it's problems, but I'm still glad I played this game.

Red Ocean

Red Ocean

Red Ocean is not really a game you'd expect to pay money for in 2007. It's only mission pack length and the gameplay and level design belongs in the 90's and early 2000's. Having said that, I quite enjoy going back and playing the old custom missions for Quake II, and this is basically what Red Ocean is; just with a slightly better engine and no Strogg. If you can track down a free version online (it's not hard with a google search), it's only a 215mb download (cut scenes not included though) so give it a shot if your bored and with an open mind you might actually enjoy it. I did!

Rogue Trooper

Rogue Trooper

Rogue Trooper is one of the lesser-known shooters of 2006. Although it was third-person, this is still your typical action shooter. And when your in cramped spaces the camera reverts almost to first-person anyway.

Rune

Rune

Rune wasn't one of the upcoming games I was eagerly looking forward to. Being a third person, part RPG. But this is one of the best game I've played in a long time.

Rune Demo

Rune Demo

All through playing Rune, I could not but help to compare it to Heretic II. For me, there has not been an action game worth buying since Heretic II. From this demo Rune looks like an excellent game, one with its own distinct style of play, and I for one and buying the full game next week.
